At the moment this page will unfortunately be a short page, due to the fact that real rock-n-roll gigs are rarer than hens teeth in the area. Hopefully over the coming months, thanks to North Wales now having its own resident rock-n-roll band, The North Wales Alley Cats, based in Rhyl the scene will get better and the gigs more frequent. Wellmans club in Llangefni on Anglesey is the home of Anglesey Rock-n-Roll Club and will be booking live acts on a monthly basis. The club is easily accessible from the main A55, by leaving at junction 6 and following the signs for Llangefni then to the trading estate. Once in the estate look for The Network Q dealership at the small traffic island and the club is right next to the showroom. This is a new venue and will be featuring local acts for the time being, hopefully as it grows, bigger bands from further afield will be booked. The resident DJ is myself, but again if possible nationaly known guest DJs will be booked to appear in the future.

Another venue in North Wales that features rock-n-roll bands on a regular basis is The Lyons Caberet Bar on the Robin Hood Caravan Park between Rhyl and Prestatyn. The North West Wild Cats and The Rhythm Aces are regular visitors to this venue. After visiting this venue myself to see The North West Wild Cats, on 22nd of November, I can report that although rock-n-roll bands do appear there, most of the patrons are not true rock-n-roll fans and the bands are very limited as to what they can play, i.e. run of the mill commercial rock-n-roll.

Holyhead has, I believe, a bar that puts on fifties and sixties record nights once a week. I will check out where and when these nights are publish details later. In the meantime if you know of anywhere else that features rock-n-roll E-mail details to m250945@yahoo.com and I will check them out and list them on this page. There is also a lack of rock-n-roll acts in the area although several solo artists on the circuit put on very passible rock-n-roll evenings. If there are artists out there who can do two forty five minute spots of rock-n-roll use the E-mail above to contact me.

Sunday 16th NovemberAnglesey Rock-n-Roll Club

The North Wales Alley Cats were the first band to play at the newly formed Anglesey Rock-n-Roll Club, hels at The Wellmans Sports & Social Club In Llangefni. Despite this being only their second time playing together, their first being a charity gig the previous week, the smallish crowd were treated to two sets of solid jiving rock-n-roll. This is the only specialist rock-n-roll band in North Wales and from their performance at the club they will not be short of work in the area. They were so popular with the crowd that they have been booked to return on 21st December, when hopefully the crowd will be a little larger. Well worth checking them out at any venue they play in he area.

Robin Hood Cabaret Bar Rhyl 22 November

Excellent nationally known group, The North West Wildcats, play this venue on a regular basis. Their normal brand of rock-n-roll / rockabilly, fills venues wherever they play.  The crowd was a good size but unfortunately were not the type of audience that appreciate the groups normal brand of music and despite them playing 90% commercial rock-n-roll, I, even though just a spectator was getting grief about what they were playing. Not the venue to see these boys at their best. Check them out at real rock-n-roll clubs and you won't be disappointed.

Wednesday 10th December Willaston Social Club Nantwich

A trip outside Wales for this one. The band was the Retro Beats, the gig, an old age pensioners party, not the place you would expect to find a rock-n-roll band. This band is different though, they play a great mix of well known fifties and early sixties songs, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Cliff Richard and Eddie Cochran. The full house knew and appreciated virtually every song the boys gave them. In the break the drummer Des even gave them a full set of George Formby, not the thing to do in a rock-n-roll club, but it made for an interesting change. The group on the whole would fill any floor as everything they do is jiveable. No problem in recommending this group to dance clubs
